Continuing where we left off last time, here are the other things about the Azores I desperately don’t want to tell you about but my stupid conscience forces me to. Hikes Miradouro in Portuguese means “view point” and boy are there a ton of picturesque Miradouros in Sao Miguel. Miradouro da Boca do Inferno Of all the hikes we did in Sao Miguel, this one is my favourite. It also has the quintessential Azores view. If you’re driving or taking the taxi, there’s a parking lot right across the street from the “Miradouro da Lagoa do Canario.” Park and simply […]

After 2 years of having our wings clipped, we’re finally freeeeeeeee! Before the pandemic, our passports were our most prized possessions. We never went anywhere without them, constantly worried about losing them, and every now and then took them out of their protective travel cases and flipped through their pages lovingly, admiring all the visa stamps. In the past 2 years, they’ve been sadly gathering dust in a drawer, neglected, and forgotten. I didn’t think they’d ever see the light of day again. In fact, after we bought our plane tickets recently, I nearly tore apart my Toronto rental apartment […]

Hey, remember travelling? Yeah, I sure do. As the world continues to drop COVID-related restrictions for travellers, tourist operators have reported a surge in bookings. Clearly, the world misses international travel as much as we do, and while it may still take some time for the international tourism sector to recover, I’m more than happy to contribute to that recovery. Accessing Money Abroad Used To Suck When FIRECracker and I took our first trip together to the Caribbean waaaay back in 2006, I distinctly remember having a wallet stuffed full of…wait for it…travellers checks. They were these slips of paper […]

It’s been a little over a week since the unprovoked attack by Russia on Ukraine has triggered a war in Europe unseen since World War II. A humanitarian tragedy is unfolding before our eyes as Russia continues to attack civilian areas, the Ukrainian military continues to defend their territory, and over a million Ukrainian refugees have been forced to flee their homes. This article isn’t about the war itself. There are lots and lots of people far more qualified than me writing about the day-to-day news in the conflict. We aren’t a news site, we’re a finance blog, so what […]

Ukraine Bombed And Our Friend is Trapped There

The world woke up this morning to a new reality: Russia has attacked the Ukraine and war has broken out. We’re in Europe right now, but thankfully we’re nowhere near this conflict so we’re not the ones in danger. But a friend of ours is, and we’re very very worried about him. We first met Johnny FD at the Digital Nomad conference in Chiang Mai back in 2020. We interviewed him on this very blog, and he interviewed us for his podcast. Our conversations centred around digital nomadism, remote work, and Financial Independence. Never in a million years did I […]
