Hey y’all! To switch things up, we’re guest posting on GoCurryCracker today, one of our favourite FIRE blogs that inspired us to retire and travel the world.
If you haven’t read GoCurryCracker before, the blog is written by Jeremy and Winnie, who retired in 2012 at the ages of 38 and 33 to travel the world! Shortly after they retired, they had a little boy, and now they travel the world as a family, proving that the nomadic life is absolutely possible with kids.
If you’re wondering what “GoCurryCracker” means , here’s the funny story behind Jeremy’s quirky blog name.
Here’s the link to our guest post: https://www.gocurrycracker.com/explore-dream-discover-guest-post/
And here’s an excerpt:
“Explore. Dream. Discover.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did so. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. –Mark Twain.”
This is the quote I copied into my final work e-mail. It was May 2015, I had given my notice, made up some bullshit excuse about taking a gap year to travel the world and “find myself”, and this was my sign-off to a company I’d given the last 9 years of my life to. But I wasn’t really quitting to travel the world for a year. I was walking out of the corporate world FOREVER.
At the age of 32, my husband and I were retiring with a Million dollar portfolio, enough by the 4% rule to sustain our $40K/year living expenses indefinitely.
But I didn’t tell my co-workers that….MORE.

Great guest post FIRECracker. You don’t come across as a “scaredy-cat” at all. Quite the opposite in fact.
If you had met me in 2015, you wouldn’t think that 🙂 Travel tends to get you out of your comfort zone.
Hmm… what were their professions before retiring that got them to a million dollar portfolio?
Jeremy worked for Microsoft (as a software engineer, I believe) and Winnie was a project manager in Taiwan.
FIRECracker is a world-travel early retiree. She lived in one of Canada’s most expensive cities, but instead of sinking into debt, she declined home ownership. His story has been featured on CBC Huffington Post CNBC BNN Business Insider and Yahoo Finance. For this purpose I would recommend livingwisdomschoolassisi.com
useful website that teaches critical analysis and provides other useful information.
