Well, that was…certainly something.
Once again, defying all odds and every reputable poll (we have GOT to stop reading those), Donald Trump has once again been elected as President of the United States.
When we woke up the next day and the world realized that Trump was going to win, our phone started pinging with messages from friends, family, and readers asking whether it was time to sell everything and move it all into cash.
I mean, I get it. We’re not the steely eyed robots that people think we are. We saw the news and had a visceral emotional reaction along with everyone else. The thing that makes us good investors is not that we don’t feel emotions, it’s that we don’t allow those emotions to affect our investing decisions.
And the reasons for this is…
The Stock Market Is Impossible To Predict
I get that for half the country, it feels like the end of the world and that this time it feels different, but remember how many calamitous events have happened in our short lives? The Great Financial Crisis of 2008, the first Trump presidency, the global pandemic, and the outbreak of war in Europe and the Middle East all felt as hopeless as it does now. But the world survived, endured, and then somehow continued to prosper.
All of those events in the past saw stock market plunges, but they all turned out to be temporary. The American economy is an enormously resilient machine, and there’s a reason why it’s the largest and most powerful in the world. It can withstand wars, natural disasters, and even deadly viruses, and still come back stronger than before.
However, in the short term, it’s impossible to predict.
Back in 2015, when Trump first got elected, we had recently launched this blog and I was writing the first iteration of the Investment Workshop. I was absolutely, 100% convinced that the world was about to enter a global recession, but I wrote back then that even though a recession was imminent, we were still going to run the workshop in order to demonstrate how investing while stocks were plunging was still the right thing to do.
Of course, that year, stock markets went in the exact opposite direction.
If there’s anything I’ve learned over 10+ years of investing, it’s that trying to out-guess equity markets is pointless. Even if you’re absolutely sure something bad is going to happen, it’s impossible to predict when to sell. And even if you get that right, it’s impossible to predict when it’s a good time to buy back in. That’s why investors, even those invested exclusively in index funds, tend to underperform the index they’re tracking. They tend to dance in and out of the markets, get their timing wrong, and in the end cost themselves money.
In fact, Fidelity Investments ran a survey, and found the two best-performing groups of clients were a) dead people and b) people who had forgotten they had investment accounts open.
So the lesson here is…invest like a dead person and Don’t. Do. Anything.
Sometimes Good Things Can Come From Bad Events
I’m not going to sugar coat the election results and try to make you feel better. That’s Klonopin’s job.
But what I’ve realized after living through so many calamities is that even the worst possible events can yield good things in the long-term in ways that are impossible to predict while you’re going through it.
The Great Financial Crisis, for example, taught the world how to deal with collapsing banks, lessons that were put to great use during the recent banking scare caused by Silicon Valley Bank and First Republic. The first Trump Presidency caused safeguards to be put in place that make it much harder to corrupt the results of an election. Even the pandemic, which seemingly had no silver lining for anyone, made remote work and world schooling much more mainstream, opening up paths to FIRE that didn’t exist before.
I don’t know what good thing is going to come from a second Trump presidency, but when his second term is over and the damage is assessed, the system will emerge stronger than before as it always has.
FIRE Cannot Be Extinguished
To those wondering whether a second Trump presidency makes FIRE impossible, no it doesn’t. Markets will likely be more volatile in the coming months, but market volatility has always been part of the stock market, Trump or no Trump. If you’re in the accumulation phase of your FIRE journey, those scary downward swings provide buying opportunities.
If you’ve recently retired, make sure your cash cushion is in place to ride out any stock market crashes, because unfortunately, we might be seeing more of those coming up (though, again, it’s impossible to predict when). When I retired, I had a 3 year cash cushion, but for someone retiring just now, I’d increase that to 4 to cover the entirety of a second Trump term.
And finally, if you’re fully retired and living off your portfolio like us, I would highly recommend an alternative form of FIRE that we’re using now that we call Dividend-FIRE, which basically means that instead of living off a combination of interest, dividends, and capital gains, you structure your base living expenses so that it can be paid exclusively from interest and dividends. This doesn’t mean that you can’t spend more than your dividend yield, it just means that if you have capital gains to harvest, great! You can spend your full 4% withdrawal that year. But if you don’t have any capital gains to harvest, being able to finance your base living expenses without selling anything gives you a lot of peace of mind.
While FIRECracker and I might be worried right now about a lot of things Trump might do, the fact that we’ll be able to pay for our lifestyle even if markets crash is a huge weight off our shoulders.
Conclusion
Trump’s first term was marked by near-constant chaos, and unfortunately, now it looks like we’re all being dragged back into that. However, one thing that should never be chaotic is your investment portfolio. Regardless of how you might feel right now, don’t let emotions dictate how you invest.

“I get that for half the country, it feels like the end of the world..”
LOL. How about the other , more than half the country , which gained the Senate, House , like me that celebrate and are excited about these excellent results and look forward to all the good to come for the next 4 years? One must stop listening to the CBC and other legacy media that get everything wrong.
Amen DadMD !!!
Yikes.
100%! Most of the country is very happy with the outcome…won popular vote as well. The issue will be with the establishment party doing everything in their power to derail positive outcomes for the We, The People.
Considering all the voting fraud that happened, why are you so insistent that the Organge Disgrace won??
What’s an Organge Disgrace? If you mean the laughing hyena, no she lost. Besides that, should we really discuss politics in this blog? There’s other places for that.
He will cook the planet to death, women are reproductive slaves….but Ill get a few more dividends. Yippee!
Great point about the media Dad MD. Every administration has bumps. What we might believe is “chaos” is the mainstream media going into hyper-ventilation and over-reaction mode, and focusing on issues that do not matter to most Americans. With Trump, they will do so again. If you tune out the MSM, the perception of chaos is diminished. It pains me to the say that, as I wish the MSM could get back to informing the citizens, and inform them objectively with facts supporting all points of view. To see the mental and emotional suffering of those that do not like the results also pains me. It is a consequence of the chaos created by the MSM.
This is so far off base. It is not the “main stream media” that is terrifying. You need to look no further than the WORDS COMING OUT OF HIS MOUTH to be terrified.
It’s the “cats” of the world that are terrifying! Lol.. msm sheep.
Totally agree with you Dad MD. People should start listening to alternative media sources as well!
Amen to that!
Lets be clear, “legacy media”= fact based reporting.
Legacy… aka.. a joke!
Julie Troll please go away unless you have something fact-based and of value to add.
Clearly you don’t know what a fact is… lol
Hi Brad, pretty spot on analysis you’ve made. I hit FI and left the workforce in 2023 and I’ve got multiple backup plans so I’m not personally too worried except for all the gains I’ve made in the market the last few years are awesome and I suspect they may drop in next 12-24 months. But I’ll be fine anyway. Geographic arbitrage is starting to look really good right now though!
I’d say the other half of the country is clueless and doesn’t see the big picture.
Seriously how can anyone think mass deportation is good? Who is going to do all the really low paying hard jobs with no OT and no benefits? Picking veggies, milking cows, cleaning hotel rooms, roofing, irrigation, and so on. Not to mention those folks are consumers for other businesses and they pay into SS but don’t benefit from it.
Tariffs, tax cuts, mass deportation, and oil drilling (the last is really stupid) are just dumb and he only said these things because people bought the grift again and kept him from being prosecuted.
This!!! Emotions aside, his policies will have large negative downstream effects. Not to mention the addition to the national debt through tax cuts.
Your brain has been cooked into thinking these things are bad so you can continue being a slave….
“Seriously how can anyone think mass deportation is good?”
Because his voters know it’s a hyperbole, just like many other things he said. Listen to JD Vance’s explanation at the all-in summit if you’re interested.
Unfortunately Roger, I think your response is likely to age poorly. Not only do most who voted for him not think it’s hyperbole, his transition team and cabinet recommendations are going full bore in that direction. Orange himself confirmed today he plans to call a national emergency and use the military, via executive action to preclude legal challenges.
If he deports the criminals and the newcomers who came in the last few years, that alone will run into the millions. You can call that “mass deportation”, but do you consider that a bad thing?
People are free to believe he’ll indiscriminately round up everyone who aren’t in the country legally. My guess is that the deportations will target those who add little to the country.
We can revisit this later based on his actual actions and results.
Good points… he’ll be good for the market…. Tesla stock on fire 🔥
I am happy with the results and also know that the Markets will do what they always do…go up 75-80% of any long period. Buy dips and stay invested. The Left went too far Left…as the Right does from time to time. They all swing back and make the US better in the long run. Don’t panic and live your life and stop watching screens all the time.
Cash is riskier than stocks right now. Trump wants to eliminate certain taxes, impose tariffs, deport immigrants, and interfere with the Fed to try and get rates lower. All four of these things are inflationary. We’ll be firing up those ol’ money printers soon, so tell your friends to stay in equities, they’re the best inflation hedge out there!
It looks like corporations and investors are very happy with Trump. The market is doing very well. I’d stay the course and avoid messing with your investment strategy. Keep investing! And I’ll hunker down and avoid the news for 4 years… It’ll be nuts. Maybe I’ll move to Thailand earlier than my initial plan. Hahaha.
Love you guys’ work over the years, but maybe y’all are listening to the wrong people and “news” outlets. At least Markets seemed to have known where this was going and are currently embracing it. With all that debt (ca. 1 Trillion in interest payments alone), continued inflation and money printing was always baked in btw, no matter who is in charge.
Stocks have been overvalued for some time and a correction might be due, especially since they have just gotten another boost up. However, I fail to follow your reasoning as to why a Trump presidency is more likely to cause a stock market crash than two new wars under Biden.
Maybe we’ll at least get some honest CPI, GDP etc. reporting for a bit because the new Admin can blame the old Admin. With all the revisions, censorship and general skullduggery it was hard to know what to believe anymore.
I can understand your feelings though, since I was on the same side of the fence in 2016 and 2020, but the Dems have lost a lot of credibility over the past 4 years, and that showed in the election results. I am far from scared this time around but rather cautiously optimistic. Cheers!
Gunn! Correct!!
Something something stages of grief…and lexapro
Just beware of those white evangelicals — the biggest hypocrites out there in the world today.
I will continue to be seemingly “nice” to them on the surface, of course, but covertly I will be working to undermine them and step on them as much as possible.
That’s sounding a little hypocritical… lol
I won’t be changing my investments based on this but my concern is mostly the amnesia that people have. We’ve seen his planned actions before and they didn’t work then (everyone forgets just before the pandemic the effects of immigration tightening and tariffs). Mass deportation kills the labor market for multiple industries, reduces consumption, and pulls in the date for SS insolvency. Tariffs raise costs for middle and lower class, which I witnessed firsthand last time in the medical device industry. And lastly, going away from climate action is not only stopping things just as they start to get cheaper than old ways but also is mortgaging the future of the planet. People who felt he’d be better on the economy have not been paying attention.
Some good points being made by a few folks on here. Yep, as much as I don’t get it, the Americans have clearly given trump and his buddies a solid mandate. So as depressing as it is to have a criminal, racist, fascist bigot back in the hot seat, we know what we’re getting and people with all their frustrations believe his strongman scapegoating formula is gonna solve their woes (despite the outgoing administration’s good results lol) The markets clearly somehow like the idea of another 4 years of trump. The rich are happy with their big breaks they don’t need and like the sounds of gutting public institutions and knowing their guy will do favors for them and not hold them to account.
The ‘beneficial’ effects of his deregulation are balanced against deportation of cheap labor and essentially what is taxing everything with the tariff approach. As much as I’m sad for poor and middle class Americans and planetary health and international relations and the free press and rule of law and having to endure 4 more years of vile rhetoric and norms of decency being shattered… I guess stocks are gonna be doing well so yay! All I can do is come along for the ride
Couldn’t have said it better. Buyer’s remorse is gonna set in soon, but we’ll just keep hearing that it’s still “the Dems” fault somehow.
We are already learning that the Orange Clown and his Cult followers don’t actually know how tariffs work lol.
They did not understand that tariffs are paid by the IMPORTING company (the US) and NOT the exporting company (let’s say China).
Pretty embarrassing really LOL.
The Orange Idiot kept saying that “tariffs” is the most beautiful word in the dictionary but he did not actually open said dictionary to read the definition of that word! lol
Tariffs are beautiful!!! Upgrade your econ education to find out why!
Take a look at what happened in the early 30’s when after the stock market crash most nations set about imposing massive tariffs on imports in order to protect their domestic industries. Trade wars rarely benefit anyone. If trump does implement a 10% tariff on every country and a 60% tariff on china, expect massive inflation and trade wars followed by decreased economic activity and a fall in GDP and therefore the stock market.
Well said. America will be forever changed Billionaires/Trillionaires are going to control our government more than they do now. I hope all of the Trumpers know what they are getting – I seem to remember many were not happy at the end of his first term, but apparently they now have amnesia. Let’s just see how the market enjoys his economics. He has a long fall from grace ahead of him.
PS. I see other American’s on this blog are happy with this decision, which is really disgusting that you align yourself with his rhetoric. It will be interesting to see how many will be willing to fall on his sword when all of his mental illness chaos ensues. Many of us are not, and when he can not be reelected again (thank whatever higher power is out there – new flash republicans, god isn’t the entity), the democrats will be ready to undo and redo all of his nonsense.
Minor correction: Trump was first elected in November 2016 and took office January 2017.
Thanks for writing about this. There will undoubtedly be more to unpack as the “Trump Trade” unfolds. In the meantime, it might be worth linking to your 2017/18 Trump posts for anyone who might be interested. Back then it seemed like the sky was falling but investors who stayed the course until now were rewarded biggly. I for one will be sticking to my long-term investment strategy, the same one I would have stuck to had Harris won. As Jack Bogle would say, “don’t just do something, stand there!”
As someone who reached FI in 2015 I’ve always been a big believer in a three to four year cash cushion. But then, as now I kept about half of my cash cushion low cost bonds and municipal bond index funds from Fidelity and Vanguard. The other half is in my after tax brokerage account yielding about 4%. I am only drawing about 2 percent of my assets down since FIRE. What do you think of keeping cash cushions in easily accessible municipal bond funds in an after tax brokerage account?
Also as an idea for a future post I’d love to get your thoughts on the impact of the new administrations planned 30 to 60% tariffs on all imported goods. I’m sure some of the excited responders to this post would also benefit from some education about tariffs and their impact on the economy and inflation.
Hi Brad, I experienced tariff effects when he did it last time. I was in medical device manufacturing, specifically in planning and supply chain (30+ years in the industry). First was the tariffs on raw metals, and retaliatory ones from the EU and Canada. My company already was exclusively buying US material so you’d think no problem for us right? Wrong. Foreign prices went up so demand on US stock skyrocketed with no increase in production (why would they, they can sell for more!) and we had to agree to huge contracts to lock in as much at the lower price as possible. Next was chips and subassemblies from China. Those were straightforward, he put the tariffs on, price went up, we put that in our sales price. All in all both of these resulted in higher healthcare costs because we were making essential care devices that can’t just easily be redesigned around US parts (those didn’t exist anyway). There’s more to it if you want to hear about chip manufacturing but I’ll leave it there for now. Tariffs mean higher prices and do not drive appreciable domestic production.
Tom,
Thanks for that info. After the election, one of the top trending search terms on Google was tariffs. Hopefully, cooler heads will prevail in Washington and help guide the administration. People do vote with their wallets and I think this is just our US Populist version of Brexit. I know folks in the supply chain and they are already making price adjustments due to proposed tariffs.
The people who will take it on the chin are the paycheck-to-paycheck crowd, the big hat, no-cattle crowd. Folks with mortgage + credit card debt and $110,000 pick-ups. Culture wars aside, anybody who lets these 30% to 60% tariffs happen at the same time as sending the foreign farm workers and construction workers home, supports some of the worst economic policy ideas I’ve ever heard.
Every single global democracy that had Covid induced inflation, switched leadership parties. That’s all it was, so let’s circle back in a few years and see how we did. Oh, and keep about four years of expenses in cash and municipal bonds. That should be a sufficient bridge over these troubled waters. Or, if you’re still working build up your cash pile and be ready to buy. Like Warren Buffett already has. He should’ve run for president since age is now no longer a concern.
Higher price on foreign good with the excess price going to pay off gov debt… sounds very good to me! Anyone who wants to import funds out gov! Doubly cool!
*our
I don’t even know why I’m replying to you, Julie, because frankly it doesn’t seem like you’re interested in having a discussion, based on your comments. Are you trying to convince others? I’m willing to listen to other people’s views and learn from them – that is the mark of intelligence, being willing to admit when you are wrong – but you aren’t explaining.
As far as I’m aware from my economics background, tarriffs are a restriction on supply, and restrictions on supply always cause a deadweight loss.
In this case, the most likely result is price inflation by American competitors to just below the price of tarriffed goods. So Americans will buy the American made goods and not the tarriffed ones. There won’t be any tarriff revenue to pay off government debt. There might be more profit for income taxes, but Trump said he’s dropping income taxes too. So I don’t see where this debt repayment is coming from.
Jason – ill give you a clue. The economists focus on GDP growth which is just a proxy for corp profits i.e. making the rich richer. If you want the average person better off where income exceeds food/housing by the most possible, then you want to drive up wages relative to profits by 1) reducing the supply of labor (deportations), 2) protect local biz through tariffs and 3) reduce gov spending which is causing inflation. People need to get a refund from their schools for the poor education they got. Though it does make them good socialists!
Most of the deportations will be of lower skilled workers, which might drive up labour costs for some companies but don’t worry, they will quickly pass on these costs to their customers. Where do many illegal workers work? Food production, so be prepared for double digit inflation to come back to a grocery store near you.
Also most Americans don’t want to work picking fruit, working in a slaughter house or work other low skilled jobs such as fast food. All the deportation will do is spur on the faster adoption of AI. Why do you think Elon Musk has joined the trump team, he wants to get his driverless robotaxis on the road to replace those driving for Uber/lift and taxis.
There won’t be much inflation if there is less demand. Deportations will reduce demand… Americans will do those jobs if they pay better. And the robots will also drive down cost which reduces inflation.
You mean like all of the deportations that occurred during Trump’s first term? I hate to tell you this, but way more deportations occurred under Biden. Also the legal system can only process around a million deportations a year, as your constitution spells out a process that must occur before someone in your country can be deported. You also don’t seem to understand how prices work. If input costs go up or taxes on a product go up, price for the product goes up. By your logic less workers = higher labour costs, so prices will go up. Tariffs, which will be an added cost to an item = higher prices. So, be prepared for the return of inflation or mass layoffs and automation. Either way, its not good for the average working American.
You need to find better “facts”…
I pity those who’ve lost their minds to the MAGA cult. All those years spent wailing about “liberty” and “freedom of speech”, only to throw their full support behind a guy who expresses an indifference towards the media getting shot, and advocating for the military to be used against civilians he doesn’t like. A literal dictator. Project 2025 is nothing short of a blueprint for a theocratic oligarchy. The future seems dark for good reason, and Canada seems next in line.
Solid advice on staying invested. The markets always seem to do the opposite of what people expect. Just be sure to stay globally diversified, and spread risk across not only stocks but other asset classes. Consider a tilt towards momentum as well (e.g. Dual Momentum or HAA) to cushion your portfolio in case Ronald McDictator does an oopsie with the US economy like he did with his own failed businesses.
Thank you Andrew. Your voice of reason is sobering. Apparently DadMD feels a dictator is better than democracy.
Who got shot? Oh yeah….
Kristi Noem’s dog got shot … by … Kristi Noem.
Lol. That you both believe the media lies make you good sheep. The media is owned by the rich who are spoon feeding the garbage that keeps you poor. The Biden years of high inflation and fascist behavior (anti free speech, DEI) are perfect proof of the garbage thinking plaguing Democrats.
My favorite quote from a family member who worked on Wall Street: “The market has one purpose and one purpose only, to make fools out of the most people possible”. Ignore the noise, “reputable polls”, and media hype on both sides and remember this: millions of people go to work everyday with the goal of adding value, competing work, and aiding their company/business’s vision; the general stock market and human wealth have ALWAYS went UP over the long term as a result.
(Checking our portoflio…)
So even though Trump’s presidency has been a mess, the market seems to be going up and reaching all time high right following this announcement. Let’s see if this continues once he’s in office. It feels like people believe he’ll fix everything he promised, but we all know some things—like lowering inflation right away—just aren’t possible. I do think however that Elon could provide some efficiency within the government as we know that he know how to ‘get things done’.
We’re definitely staying the course!
The stock market did much better than average during Trump’s first term. Check the numbers!
You mean the SP500, between December 2016 and December 2020?
My calculator says 68% in 4 years, almost 14% per year. Better than a kick in the butt, as they say in Italy. The trick is that the consequences of the Covid crisis, with the scandalous and extended public denial of it, gets computed under the subsequent Biden administration.
The provisional Biden checkout receipt says 86%, almost 17% a year.
What? Regardless of the relentless propaganda, the daily calls for an imminent recession, the inflation crisis sparked by the wars, the DEMOCRAT did better?
I don’t think the returns for either of those are inflation adjusted, besides the fact I cant reproduce those results with portfoliovisualizer dot com.
Who cares what the number of dollars you have at the end is when the value has decreased. Try it again using inflation adjusted numbers …
FYI I got 13.97 % CAGR(16.12% if you neglect inflation) for Trumps term
and 7.65% (13.15% neglecting inflation) under Biden so far. Hardly comparable!!
If your source of truth is TRUTH social, no comparison is possible. Trump is the divine Trump, Biden is corrupt, vermin and the enemy within.
But if you’re talking numbers, you know, it’s numbers.
Take the numbers you gave as an example.
SP500 was 2239 at the end of 2016. This data point is published.
Neglect inflation and apply a 16.12% increase a year, for 4 years. You get 4071.
But SP500 was actually at 3756 at the end of 2020. You are way off.
With 14% a year, you get 3781. Close enough to the actual recorded number.
Politically, in case any were wondering, yes. It was the Dems’ fault.
https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2024/11/07/trump-legal-failures-blame-column-00187945
A side note on Elon: look at Twitter now, so efficient!
Financially, IF a crash happens, I’ll use the opportunity to move my financial home from the US to Singapore… Any upcoming article on this? 😉
That’s another great thing about Trump. Trump wants to implement Residency Based Tax for US Citizens unlike the nightmare for US expats now. That move to Singapore will now be less taxed thanks to Trump
You heard about the mass deportations announced in 2015?
They never happened, right?
But a downturn can always happen, whether Big Chief wants it or not.
Especially when volatility is the name of the game.
Frankly, I am counting the days.
Politico… if it was a newspaper, you’d keep it in your bathroom to use for a better purpose… lol
People who think, as opposed to pledging their allegiance to the despot in charge, make the world a better place. Be thankful for them. Even better, try to be one of them.
Bonus points for name-dropping Klonopin. It’s good to be seen. 🙂
I was a centre-lefty, but events of the last ten+ years have sent me running in the other direction. Some thoughts.
A: I am amazed Canadians and non-Americans around the world are shocked Trump was re-elected. Are the echo chambers so impervious they missed the woke mind virus sending us into the upside down dimension over the last ten plus years and the inevitable pushback from normies who have converted to Trump Republicans to stop the madness?
B: Despite the chaos of Trump’s last administration & especially January 6th (holy moly that was nuts) he scared the piss out of dictators and threw gasoline on the economy.
C: The first Trump win made me re-evaluate how 50%+ of the population very definitely did not think like my then existing social circles. Thus a second Trump win was expected by those of us that escaped the echo chamber, particularly with Democrats/Liberals etc. doubling down on insane policies despite popular backlash. The second Trump win leading to the political left repeating their lack of introspection about how they could possibly lose and continuing to call 50%+ percent of Americans Nazis and racists is highly entertaining.
Hillary Clinton did an interview on CBC radio this past summer. I mistakenly thought she & her fellow democrats would have obviously learned their lesson from the first go around that maybe most people didn’t like being called racist Nazis because they didn’t want their children to share change rooms with mentally unstable cross dressers, or being forced to apologize for being born on colonized dirt, or have to put up with violent repeat offenders being released instantly after being arrested (a teacher at a nearby elementary school to me is dead because of Liberal changes to the law allowing a repeat offender to be free, I drove past his body, he taught our friends children). As long as the left continues to behave more batshit crazy than the right, they will lose.
I truly hope Canada can find it’s way back to a bright, pro-civilization future. The last decade was not that.
Ok, I will play your game for a minute and refrain from saying ANYTHING financial for a minute.
The Nazi thing you said in point C exemplifies Trump’s approach to snowflakism.
1. Can you believe it, they called me a NAZI just because I complained that my generals were not like Hitler’s [actually, general Kelly called him a fascist, but there is much more evidence for that than Kelly’s witness].
2. Actually they didn’t call me a Nazi. The insult is directed to you, my fan club members.
Who said that being a snowflake is bad? It’s back in fashion, and it pays in spades!
Even though we’ll have a racist, convicted felon as president, I agree with you, putting emotions aside and continuing to invest is the best move here. Thanks for all that you do!
At the end of the day, MAGA voters will work hard to allow me and all the (international) investors to enjoy life in early retirement! lol
Thank you Murica for allowing us to build wealth and FIRE! Love ya!
Other than that, yes it’s a sad result for a lot of people in Murica, including MAGA voters themselves… they’re in for a rude awakening lol. (not my problem really, they are about to FAFO)
All these snowflakes are a testament to how crappie gov education in Canada leads to a complete lack of critical thinking. They completely deserve their lower standard of living. Lol. Go MAGA!
Hey MAGA Julie, stop spending time online and go back to work (for us)!
Please work MAGA hard (pun intended…) for us international investors so we can get our dividends at the end of the year!
(and nope I was not educated in Canada but in another Western Country, but I am not surprised a MAGA person doesn’t know much outside of Murica lol).
Lol… I’m retired at 31 on profits from all you media-swallowing workers beliefs that gov works for you! Thank you! Now my media stock shorts are funding excess consumption. Thank you again! Next democrats use of lawfare and fake trials will make those fascists Dems pay again. Beautiful!!!
You really don’t seem to understand the difference between a fascist and a communist do you. While they both operate with a centralize autocratic government, fascists believe in private enterprise to deliver services and produce products (things like health care and social services) and that certain segments of the population are superior to others be by gender, race etc, while communists strive towards the state owning all forms of production and the removal of private ownership so that all citizens benefit equally. Neither system is great, but Canada has many aspects of socialism, communism’s much friendlier cousin than a fascist. Trump on the other hand is much closer to a fascist dictator as he talks pits races against each other and wants to dismantle government programs that provide socialized care to its citizens. (medicare/medicaid, public eduction etc. ) It sounds like your education system has failed you again
Both communist and fascist apply to how Democrats (and Canadian Liberals) run their governments. Centralized planning which counters market forces makes you poorer. Just look around – it’s everywhere. 20% of Canadians have no primary care doctor.. and i bet that number is way higher. Think think think!!! Focusing on getting definitions correct while missing what’s actually happening in reality is a bit delusional. Accepting that you make a mistake and moving forward to improving your life through better policy is the first step to a better life. Just like FIRE! Put your government on FIRE for a better tomorrow.
Trust me, I am not a fan of the current governmental regime in Canada, and that they are a bit too socialists for me, that doesn’t change that there is a massive difference between what is a communist and a fascist. I understand why many voted for Trump, the narcissist. Almost ever single developed nation has turfed the party in charge over the past 18 months and I expect Canada to do the same within the next year. This doesn’t change the fact that Trump has displayed or promoted many fascist tendencies (lock up his opponents, attempt a coup, demonize minorities, threaten to turn the military against the people, desire to limit an individual’s body autonomy etc.)
As for your lovely stat on Canada’s health care system, close to 100 million Americans don’t have a primary care provider (family doctor), which is about 30% of your population. The US spends about $12,500 per person (2022 data), vs Canada’s $6,300 per person on health care, yet you have more people without a doctor and live just over 3 years less on average. As for education the US ranked 11 countries lower than Canada on the international PISA scores (2022 data again).
Yes the GDP per capita is lower in Canada vs the US (i.e. we are poorer), but we tend to live longer, are better educated and overall have a much lower level of income inequality.
I was never trying to attack your nation, rather I was simply trying to point out some fallacies to your arguments. Next time, try doing a bit of research first, but of course that would require deductive reasoning and the ability to admit when you are wrong.
“ there is a massive difference between what is a communist and a fascist.”
The only difference is one is nationalistic, concerned with their own country while the other is globalist, and would like to control the entire world. I’m pretty sure I would prefer the former… I would rather have people control their own countries.
Sorry, but the US “fascist government” wasn’t the one screwing with the bank accounts of truckers or those that supported them. Which government is really fascist?
When we woke up the next day and the world realized that Trump was going to win, our phone started pinging with messages from friends, family, and readers asking whether it was time to sell everything and move it all into cash.

I guess the friends, family and readers don’t actually know what investing is all about and that they’re actually just gamblers at heart.
Julie is all in with the MAGA Kool aid. Lucky for her she doesn’t care about the poor sods who will lose Medicare, social security, any chance at a decent minimum wage, lower pharma prices, etc.
Hilariously the MAGAs believe foreign leaders are afraid of Trump – they think he is dumb and a useful idiot- Putin in particular. That’s why he invested in propaganda so Trump would win.
I guess we will see what happens after 4 years with oligarchy control and war mongering leadership. It is going to be schadenfreude when the US military has to draft the bros to fight the conflicts including on US soil if he really deports millions of people.
I will be watching the clown show from Canada eating popcorn.
Yup, pretty much the whole World will be watching while eating popcorn or pizza or paella or sushi or baguette and cheese.
Murica never fails to entertain!
Russian propaganda??? Who needs that when the legacy media is so full of crap? You seem to think the US is reading Pravda!!! Lol! The poor are losing their Medicare and benefits due to high inflation from Democrats. Trump won’t cut any of that stuff – Democrats already did that. And Canadians get cheap drugs because the US pays high prices due to crappy Obama care legislation preventing US gov from negotiating prices. If that changes during trump, Canada will then pay higher drug prices – and all Frugal Genx will be able to afford to eat down the road will be popcorn. Pop pop pop!!!
LMAO at all those weak people letting “bad orange guy” live in their head after four years of Mr. Potato Head. Like a vegetable is better than someone who is actually aware of what’s going on around them. You apparently take the biased media way too seriously.
